GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB, May 6, 2019: IPAC Services Corporation introduces industrial powder coating to their suite of abrasive blasting and coating services with the installation of two new large industrial powder coating ovens in their north painting facility at #100, 9101 – 150 Ave. Grande Prairie, AB.
“In addition to now being the largest and most technically advanced industrial powder coating facility in northern Alberta, IPAC is also the only internal fusion bond epoxy facility in the region” says Derrick Mysko, President of IPAC Services.
“Our clients will realize both immediate and long-term benefits using this technology” explains Chris Rimmer, Director of Industrial Coatings. “Short turnaround times will provide cost and schedule efficiencies, while a tough and durable finish will deliver lasting quality.”
Each oven’s dimensions are 9’ wide x 24’ long x 14’ high, while the powder coating spray booth is 14’ wide x 28’ long x 14’ high. These facilities can accommodate oversized pieces and large batch painting for a variety of applications.
Powder coating is becoming the coating of choice for internal pipe. It is suitable for all pipe sizes 2” and up and provides a consistent thickness and superior quality. For oil and gas applications, powder coating can be used in place of all liquid coatings and provides a slightly thicker coating for greater performance where abrasion is an issue. Powder coating advances are specifically advantageous for the internally coating of spools that carry corrosive liquids and petro-chemicals or that come in contact with salt water solutions. When in use for water treatment piping and for potable water, powder coating meets all NSF requirements.
Powder coating is well suited for external pipe specifically when coating pipeline components, such as pipeline bends, as they are typically coated with 100% solids epoxy coatings whereas the mainline is coated with fusion bond epoxy. Therefore, when powder coated, pipeline bends, below grade pipe, risers and line pipe for testing companies can meet the same specifications as mainline pipe.
Finally, powder coating is excellent for manufactured items that are mass produced such as pipe racks, pipe shoes, structural steel supports, and handrails. These items can be completed in large batches, greatly reducing handling time and costs.
Powder coating is a finishing process that yields a thick, hard finish that is tougher than conventional paints. Benefits of powder coating include a durable, long lasting, even finish, quick turnaround, and reduced environmental impacts.
